Show Choir performs at NAfME

Posted in Uncategorized by houstonmustangs on November 6, 2013

showchoirThe Houston High School Show Choir was honored to perform at the
National Association for Music Education (NAfME) National In-Service
Conference in Nashville. This elite ensemble represented Shelby County
Schools and the State of Tennessee in this educational convention, which
was held from October 27-30 at the Gaylord Opryland. The Houston High
School Show Choir, one of only two high school choirs chosen, performed
on Monday, October 28. The conference, focused on professional
development for music educators, featured inspiring performances from
groups all over the state of Tennessee. Each group was selected through
an intensive application process, which involved the submission of
resumes and performance files to be considered by the Tennessee Music
Educators Association. TMEA chose the top groups from a variety of
genres and styles to perform for NAfME’s conference, aiming to
demonstrate the level and diversity of music education in the state of
Tennessee. The Show Choir was proud to represent Houston High School at
this prestigious event!

Hayden Perry and Rachel Brannen were selected as members of the 2013DSC01686
NAfME All-National Honor Choir sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Representing Houston High School, Hayden and Rachel joined more than 670 of the most musically talented and skilled high school students in the United States to perform at a gala concert on October 30, 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The NAfME All-National Honors Ensembles, consisted of a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed chorus, and jazz ensemble, were organized bymembers of the National Association for Music Education. The mixed
chorus was comprised of approximately 350 vocalists. Hayden and Rachel
successfully passed five auditions to participate in this honor choir
beginning with the All-Southwest Honor Choir and culminating in the
National Honor Choir. Houston High School was one of only two high
schools in the state of Tennessee that had more than one choral
participant.
