Students are encouraged to participate in the third annual Battle of the Brains, an academic competition between Germantown and Houston High sponsored by the City of Germantown and the Germantown Education Commission.

This year’s theme is energy. Students, through discussions with teachers, will identify a topic for development in the parameters of energy solutions. Potential topics include: sources, application, consumption, conservation, energy efficiency, nuclear or otherwise (existing and/ or alternative, economies and cost efficiency.

Athletic competitions are not the only competitions in town. Germantown and Houston High School students will be intellectually stimulated to create and build a project in the fields of sciences or mathematics. Individuals and groups are encouraged to compete. A trophy, cash prizes and other wards will be given.

PTSA Open House Thursday, August 25 at 6 PM

Parents are invited to Open House on Thursday, August 25th. The evening will start in the auditorium and will continue as parents follow their students’ schedules in 10 minute increments. Please wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking a lot!

A letter will be distributed on Thursday, August 18th, where your student can write down his/her first trimester schedule and room number.

The general schedule is as follows:

6:00- 6:25- PTSA meeting in auditorium
6:35-6:45- 1st Period
6:50-7:00- 2nd Period
7:05-7:15- 3rd period
7:20-7:30-4th period
7:35-7:45- 5th period

Gilland named Teacher of the Year by City of Germantown

Angie Gilland, librarian and media specialist at Houston High School, was awarded the Germantown Teacher of the Year Award. Gilland was presented her award at the Germantown Education Commission’s Education Celebration. Her award was sponsored by the City of Germantown.

Congratulations Mrs. Gilland!
