Drop Procedures and Schedule Information

Posted in Uncategorized by houstonmustangs on August 23, 2013

The drop procedures are as follows:

1. A student may drop an elective to a study hall within the first 10 days of school.

2. Counselors will advertise elective class openings starting the 4th day of school and continuing until the classes are full or until the 10th day of school.

3. AP and Honors classes CANNOT be dropped until a student gives the class a fair chance (that means he/she tries hard, attends regularly, and completes all assignments). At the first interim report (midway through the first 9 weeks), the teacher, student/parent, and counselor will determine together if a student is misplaced. If so, the counselor will make a recommendation to the Principal or Vice Principal, and the student will be dropped- if appropriate- to the standard class at that time. However, the grade from the AP or honors course will follow the student to the standard class.

Thank you for understanding our procedures. We encourage students to push themselves academically. We also have to make staffing and scheduling decisions based on registration requests, so movement during the school year is very hard to accommodate.

Class schedules reflect student course selections AND course availability. Some substitutions were made if a course was closed. These substitutions were made with consideration of graduation requirements.

Senior/Parent College Night

Posted in Uncategorized by houstonmustangs on August 20, 2013

Senior/Parent College night will be next Monday night, August 26th,  at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. Those who did not get a Houston Guide to College last year can pick one up then, and I will discuss the college admission process, scholarships and financial aid, and how to help students choose the best college for them.
