Wesley Jones named CA Academic All-Star

Wesley, a senior, is an outstanding student with a unique interest in the study of languages. He holds a 3.68 unweighted grade point average and was named a National Merit Semifinalist. He scored a perfect 36 on the ACT and a 2270 on the SAT. He plans to study linguistics in college. A fluent German speaker, Wesley is currently learning Italian and Romanian. He is able to read in several other languages. He earned first place in Tennessee on the National German Exam and is one of 39 students in the United States to receive an expense-paid trip to Germany through the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). He is a three-year member of the National German Honor Society and a four-year member of the German Club. He also was part of the school’s German Folk Dancing group for two years. Wesley has participated in the University of Memphis Foreign Language Fair for four years, earning first and second place awards in a variety of categories. He also finished 11th in the U.S. Open Round of the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad. A member of the school’s Knowledge Bowl Team, Wesley has a thirst for knowledge not only in the study of languages but also in the study of physics and mathematics. He also has been a part of the school’s wind ensemble for three years and made All-West Tennessee Senior Band in the 10th and 11th grades. An active volunteer, Wesley has been a part of Germanton UMC fundraisers and Vacation Bible School. He also has performed service projects for Manna House and the Mountain Tennessee Outreach Project. He traveled on a YouthWorks mission trip.
