Friends and family of Kyle Kiihnl are preparing for a special annual tribute event for the former Houston High School student. The annual Eye opener 5K will take place on Saturday, October 23 at Shelby Farms Park. Kyle’s life was taken tragically in 2002 in an accident caused by a sleep-impaired driver. The race is held to honor his life and bring awareness to the dangers of sleep-impaired driving. The race has also helped provide nine college scholarships to local students in Kyle’s name over the years. In addition to this year’s 5K race, the event will include a 1-mile fun run and walk around Patriot Lake, as well as a moon bounce and Jammin’ Jammies PJ contest for kids 10 and under. The event will be hosted by FOX13’s Mearl Purvis. There will also be live music from DJ Rockin’ Robin and the chance for one lucky participant to win a Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed valued at $2,000.
